St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church
WE ARE
* Lively and Grace-Filled in Worship – we love to sing, love to pray and praise God, and enjoy the gift of grace from God that sends us out into the world from the altar with joy and power. We are bilingual and multicultural in worship.
* Humble – we don’t put on airs, and we welcome anyone from anywhere in any situation at any and all times
* Diverse – We look like this part of the world, coming from many countries and backgrounds, many of them Caribbean – roti, curry goat, arroz con pollo, channah, fried chicken and the occasional bratwurst R Us!
* Neighborhood Outer Borough - We’ve always been located in the Cypress Hills section of East New York, Brooklyn. We stand strong with our community, and have fought for housing (Nehemiah Plan), schools and against crime and gang activity with other activists. Our motto is “The Church in the Middle of the Block and at the Heart of God’s Word”
* Celebrating God’s Amazing Grace – the heart of our belief is that we love because God loved us first. Faith is a gift. We believe we live with God forever, beginning now, because of God’s Son Jesus, who died and rose for us. We receive God’s grace through the Word, preached and taught, and through the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion (Eucharist). Grace creates and sustains community!
* Lutheran – we are part of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, one of over 6000 congregations
Active in Love and Service – we have a great fellowship hour after church, host many special meals and events, organize around assisting others through mission to children (St. Peter’s Pre-School, Sunday School, First Communion/Baptism/Confirmation Classes, Music Lessons, Homework Assistance, Activity Night and Service Events), through group prayer (Tuesday evenings), community service (street clean-up, connecting people to various agencies for assistance including immigration, SNAP, housing, employment and the like), and hosting NA twice weekly. Our Mission Statement is “Reaching Out With the Love of Jesus through Thought, Word and Deed.”
