Music Lessons

Stephen Marcus, Associate director of Music for St. Peter’s, leads this outreach ministry with the assistance of young musician Christian Chanderdatt.  Grants and gifts have brought keyboards and guitars sufficient to offer participating students.  The students (mostly children, but some adults) have the availability of practice instruments and then receive lessons at no cost on a weekly basis.  Progress is evaluated by Mr. Marcus.  The lessons are coordinated with Homework Help and Friday evening ministries so that the facility use and participation are optimized.

Sunday School

Professional Educator and child of St. Peter’s Natasha Llewellyn-Paul is Sunday School Superintendent.   In the circumstance of St. Peter’s membership, a Lutheran curriculum for urban children from multi-cultural backgrounds has not been found.  Annette Fanara, also a professional Christian educator, has taken up the challenge of providing weekly Sunday School lessons geared to the Lectionary Series used in church, with the addition of important Bible stories.  Natasha, her team of teachers, and the children bring back to the worshipers the insights they have gained at the end of each Sunday service, “connecting the dots” for both children and adults.

Youth and Confirmation

Deacon Jose Pinedo-Whatts heads up the Youth portion of St. Peter’s ministry, bringing together children age 12 and up in various activities and endeavors for spiritual growth and service.
Erica Corlito is the Confirmation teacher, bringing home Lutheran Christian teaching in a style that fits her role as an elementary teacher in a local public school.  There is plenty of time for “give and take” in Erica’s teaching method, and the children are asked to explore the depth of their commitment to the Lord prior to making their confirmation vow.
Youth group meets for spiritual growth and service, pulling together projects such as an annual retreat, neighborhood cleanup, and the annual Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run event coordinated by youth leader Mike Sansarran.  Thomas Bonilla and Katie Boeck lend their expertise, time and talent in creating activities for the youth.

Words from our Senior Pastors

Ps. David Benke

Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.

Ps. David Benke

Give thanks to the Holy One. Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son

Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls.
